Fun times in Washington! Unfortunately I got sick and ended up taking the 6 hour flight back with an ear infection....

My dad gave his presentation at the SABR convention on player valuation and all that complicated statistical stuff but he didn't win They told him his presentation was one of the best so maybe next year...

I really like Crystal Light. The Lemonade is my favorite. I decided to try this new orange sunrise flavor and I'm not sure I like it. It tastes like a really bad Tang-type mixed juice and I'm not even sure I want to finish it. But I hate wasting

Has anyone seen An Inconvenient Truth? I saw it twice and it has turned me on to the global warming crisis. The fact that we can totally destroy the planet that has been sustaining life for millions of years is a very scary truth indeed.

In fact, we cannot totally destroy the planet. A properly aimed asteroid or a massive volcano would do more damage than we could even imagine. What it is important to differentiate is that we can make our own planet unfit for HUMANS, and that is a significant difference. I'm not arguing that we are not capable of it, but we give ourselves too much credit, and we ignore the natural power of the earth -- also to heal itself -- to say that we could totally destroy it.
If you don't believe that, then you should study areas that humans have been forced to abandon, such as Three Mile Island, or the fallout zone near Chernobyl -- those areas are quite happy that humans have left, and are growing profusely. The same would happen anywhere, and the same happened after massive meteors hit the earth in the past. We measure time in the approximate spans of our own lifetimes, one hundred years or so, which is about how far back actual data goes to "conclude" that we are changing the climate forever.

I awoke this morning and realized that I meant not to say Three Mile Island, but Love Canal.
Just wanted to clear that up. Now to resume normal activities....

Went to Miami for what was supposed to be a lovely 5 days, but that was cut short due to the sudden passing of my uncle Flew straight from Miami to Raleigh, NC for the funeral. He was only 46 and left behind two beautiful children, 15 and 11. It was esophagus cancer due to we think acid reflux disease. It was great so see family but so sad under the circumstances. Anyway, here are a few picture from Miami (I took surprisingly few). It was a little overcast but I can't be picky!

so sorry your well deserved vaca was cut short by tragedy Fri 2-Jun-2006 17:52

Photoshop Fun

Original
First 2 Shots Merged
Final Product, watermark and all :)
I spent an entire afternoon merging these shots in photoshop of Robinson Cano sliding into home at Yankee Stadium. The game was against Baltimore on Saturday, April 22, 2006.

I used 3 separate layers and the history brush. I could have just feathered the selections and copy and pasted which would have been easier, but I wanted crisp, realistic edges. I think it turned out pretty well if I do say so myself But does anyone know of any faster way this type of photo merging can be done in photoshop? This seriously took hours...

Neat job..........I LOVE Photoshop!!! Sun 28-May-2006 14:58

Forgotten
One year of college down, three more to go. I helped my friend move out (and by helped, I mean I mostly took pictures, but hey, now she can look back and remember). It was weird, seeing everything gone. This is not actually her room, but our friends' room down the hall from her. They had gone home a few days earlier and I tried the door to see if it was open, and it was. And it was sad. And just... emtpy.

For me: Three down, one more to go.
It is sad to say bye to friends for the summer. But it goes by so fast, fall will be here before you know it. Enjoy your summer!

So I wasn't too accurate when I said I was going to try to start posting again but the good news is my last final is on monday. So hopefully THEN I will actually have time to do more posting. I've taken zillions of pictures but most of them are just of people, not of anything cool or artsty. These were taken at the Yankees/Red Sox game on Tuesday May 9 (the one where we lost horribly). To clear it up, I am not a Red Sox fan. But this attendee was sitting in front of me and I could not miss the photo opportunity of his stylish hat in conjunction with the house that Ruth built.

These are typical shots but I like them. Sorry I've been away from fotopages for a while. I'm trying to jump back on the band wagon now.

They are sharp, very sharp! And great colors. Wed 25-Jan-2006 14:00
