What's happened to you, Mr. Cruise?
So I tried to overlook that little incident on Oprah's couch and still maintain the fact that I really like Tom Cruise and think he's a cool guy. But recently he just seems to be getting more and more weird. I don't blame him for getting mad that someone sprayed him with water... I'd be a bit miffed myself. And I guess love can do crazy things to people sometimes and make them jump around and act like there's a party in their pants. But what really irritates me is when people try to discuss things about which, in reality, they know nothing. We now arrive to the topics of antidepressents and psychotherapy. Mr. Cruise, self-proclaimed scientologist, claims that there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance and that post-partum depression is all hormonal and can be cured simply with vitamins. He thinks antidepressants are dangerous and has even said that he's helped a lot of people get off them. It's true that antidepressants can be dangerous if not taken correctly. This is why you should always consult your doctor before beginning or stopping any treatment. Most antidepressants need to be tapered off slowly in order to prevent a discontinuation syndrome. I mean, my mom's a doctor, a psychiatrist at that, but since I haven't consulted Dr. Cruise, there's a chance that I'm completely wrong. It seems that the only thing he doesn't know is that he doesn't hold an M.D. Silly Tom Cruise... stick to the stuff you know about. I like to research topics that look interesting to me but I don't go around claiming to be an expert. Just because you've read a book or two doesn't mean you're smarter than those who have dedicated their lives to researching such topics. But then again, what do I know
I recently won the Greenwich Arts Council Creative Achievement Award (or something like that) for Photography which was super-duper exciting. I got to go and show my photography and play the piano (which was only slightly disasterous) and I got to meet photographer Ben Larrabee who was just opening his photography exhibit at the Greenwich Arts Council. His photography is amazing! Please click on that link and check out his work. He specializes in portraits but be sure to click on "Larrabee Collection" as well to see his super-cool experimentation with light and shadows.

A Fish or a Bug?
It looks like a fish to me.
I bought a photo album and printing out graduation pictures and making a physical album out of them. I've gone through 3 color ink cartriges in 3 days. The people at Staples must think I'm crazy because I keep going back and buying more.
I'm watching Janis Joplin's E! True Hollywood Story. But I'm not really paying attention.
I want to go to Playland.

Yellow
More photos from our trip to the intrepid. I think these are from somewhere on the submarine but I can't exactly remember. I like the intense yellow color and the shinyness yet dirtyness of the instruction plaques. Please enlarge.
A few weeks ago we went to an outdoor craft and art fair in White Plains that we love going to every year. We asked how much a booth would cost and they said $175 which didn't sound too bad. But then I realized that all that includes is the plot of land. You have to supply your own tent, your own electricity, your own tables and stands, everything. And since it spans two days, you have to take all your stuff home with you over night because there's no security and then bring it back the next day. We thought it would be cool for me to have a booth next year for my photography but I didn't realized being an artist was so expensive...
The Yankees lost last night after winning 6 in a row. I guess you can't have everything
Happy first day of summer!!

More from the Intrepid
More shots from the Intrepid. The last 4 are from inside the submarine of which we had a tour. I really liked taking pictures of buttons and knobs as you will see in this and future posts. But I think #6 is my favorite. Please enlarge them!!!
Happy Father's Day!

The USS Intrepid
The day after graduation, Saturday May 11, we went down the west side highway to see the USS Intrepid which was surpisingly really cool and exciting. These are just some of the things that were on the deck of the aircraft carrier. It's an old air craft carrier that was used during World War II and was brought back out of retirement during September of 2001 after the World Trade Center attacks and served as a base for some of the military. It's a museum with loads of cool artifacts and rides in it. My cousin and I went on a fighter jet simulation which was absolutely terrifying (partly because I didn't know that I was steering half the time so we were spinning upside down in circles.) There's also a submarine where we had a tour and a Concorde Jet which was also pretty cool. I also got a really cool Intrepid sweatshirt
The Yankees won two games in a row! This, and the fact the Jason Giambi played uncharacteristically well last night, is super exciting!

Graduation, June 10, 2005
Graduation was sad yet great. It was HOT and we were all dying in the heat because our dresses seemed to way 100,000,000 pounds... but it was really great even so. Afterwards we went to the party where there was much dancing and music... very loud music. Many relatives left today and it's really sad to have an empty house now.
I did not realize that I have already passed my 1 year fotopages anniversary which was on May 29th. So happy belated anniversary to me!!!
I have many more pictures to post of this very fun weekend so stay tuned!
dottedstripes: we were at the dump because we had just taken apart my friend's grandparents' old beds and were throwing out the ratty old mattresses

The Dump
The dump in Meredith, NH was a very exciting photo opportunity. I even played around with the macro function on my camera. Please enlarge!!!
Interesting thought of the day: Why is it that when I'm tired, I drive slower? It's not that I'm driving slower because I'm tired but because I'm too tired to push my foot down harder on the accelerater. It's not like it's that hard to move your toe a little bit and push more on the gas, but it seems so difficult sometimes. Maybe it's just me, though...

I survived the weekend as a Yankee fan in northern New England
Sorry I haven't updated in a while. This weekend I went to New Hampshire and took LOTS of great photos. I also took High Definition photos in my film camera but those are yet to be developed.
This was a house that we passed many a time that had a seemingly unfinished fence. I have found that the little bushes between the pieces of fence are supposed to complete it but who knows when they will finish growing. The whole contraption just seems kind of pointless....

Half Birthday? (And More Milou!)
Yesterday (May 21) was my "half birthday"!! My real birthday is Nov 21. However, after thinking about it extensively and doing some math I have found that May 21 is not actually my half birthday. Here is my math:
There are 365 days in a given year (excluding leap years). 365/2 = 182.5
Nov 21 is the 325th day of the year
proven: 31 (jan) + 28 (feb) + 31 (mar) + 30 (apr) + 31 (may) + 30 (jun) + 31 (jul) + 31 (aug) + 30 (sep) + 31 (oct) + 21 (nov thru the 21st) = 325
325 - 182.5 should give me the day of my half birthday
325 - 182.5 = 142.5
The 142.5th day of the year is May 22.5
proven: 142.5 - 31 (jan) - 28 (feb) - 31 (mar) - 30 (apr) = 22.5 --> 22.5 days after the end of April is the 22.5th day of May.
On non-leap years, my half birthday is half way past the 22nd day of May. Since I was born at about 2:45 pm, my half birthday would fall exactly a half day (12 hours) after 2:45pm on May 22nd which happens to be 2:45 am on May 23rd.
On leap years, 366/2 = 183 is half the number of days in the year and my birthday falls on the 326th day of the year. Therefore, my half birthday falls on the 143rd day of the year which is May 23rd. Since I was born at about 2:45pm, It so happens that both of my half birthdays (leap years and non-leap years) fall on May 23rd (one at 2:45 am and one at 2:45 pm) even though my real birthday is on November 21st. So I will techinally not be exactly 18.5 years old until 2:45am tomorrow morning, May 23rd (since it isn't a leap year.)
Fascinating, isn't it?????
