On the Boat...
Here we are on the boat on our way to go snorkeling! We also got those underwater cameras and took pictures of all the fish and the reef and stuff but I still have to scan those... they didn't come out that well but I might post them anyway.
I've had laryngitis My voice is starting to get better but it's been pretty bad... On Saturday it was HORRIBLE and I couldn't talk at all. It's funny... you never realize how much you use your voice until you lose it. I had NO idea I needed to talk so much! It was so frusterating! I guess my problem is that I just have too much to say...
I have officially gotten into 3 (three!) colleges and I now must choose which one to go to. They are all close to home and I like them all but I need to pick. I'm going to some open houses so hopefully that will help me decide. I need to send in a deposit by May 1st. I don't like making important decisions like this.
I somehow thought back in May of 2004 that it would be a good idea to take 2 (two!) AP math classes this year... (Ok, so technically I'm in AP Calculus but honors Statistics but I think I'm taking the AP in Statistics anyway because honors and AP is basically the same class...) Now that it is nearing may, I am just a little bit stressed out about the math intensity that I will be going through until these tests are over with... I am supposedly getting a quiz EVERY day in BOTH classes from now until the AP which sounds like loads of fun... I took half of my mock stat AP today which was... interesting. I actually did decently on my Calc test which is good because that's the test I'm actually forced to take... And if I do well that means I don't have to take Calc I again in college
Baseball has started again!!! I'm so happy.
(P.S. I posted my 1000th picture in my last post "Palomino Island"!!)

Back From Puerto Rico!
I have returned and Puerto Rico was absolutely amazing!! The weather was perfect and it was about 85 degrees every day with nice trade winds from the ocean. We went swimming a lot and took the ferry out to Palomino Island and spent the entire day on the beach which was great except for when I got sunburned... My mom and I went snorkeling which was soo much fun and then we all went on this Bio-Luminescent kayaking trip at night where we went to this place with GLOWING plankton! It was so cool and I jumped in the water which was kind of gross but really cool at the same time because I was GLOWING!! We also went on a walking tour through the rainforest with this super-knowledgeable guy who knew EVERYTHING and even LIVED in the rainforest! The casino was great and since the gambling age was 18 I got to gamble! I surprisingly lost money at draw poker machine (it was only a quarter machine and i lost $29.50 ) but then I played blackjack with my dad and won much money back! But it was scary because that game goes soo fast and I can't add that fast and everyone was so good. I knew what I was doing but my dad had to tell me when to double/split because I didn't know that. But there was so much smoking and at one point I had to leave the poker machine because I was sandwiched by two cigarettes which were right in my face... Nonetheless, I had a FABULOUS time

The Doll
I've never really used pretty colors in a post before and I've decided to start getting creative.
Here it is... the first experiment with the Manual F-stop on my digital camera!! I've never been able to get this close to an object before and get a clear, crisp photo. I'm able to get as close as 20 cm!! Please enlarge these to see the incredible detail! Hey, do these qualify as macro shots??
This is the uberly-creepy-yet-still-kind-of-mysteriously-pretty doll that lives at my grandma's house. What do you think... Is she pretty or nightmarishly scary?
We're going to Puerto Rico tomorrow morning for 5 days but the weather says it will be partly cloudy and rainy the whole time So much for taking pretty pictures... I'll still bring my camera but won't guarantee and gorgeous landscapes or anything. I remember I went to Puerto Rico when I was about 7 years old and I was swimming in the pool and a little Puerto Rican girl about my age came over to me and said excitedly "Hola!" I didn't know what to do so I just ran away. Yes, I was afraid of the little girl who said "Hola" because I was a very smart 7-year-old and did not know what "Hola" meant...

"The Shoe: Revisted" ..or.. "To Go Premium or Not To Go Premium"

Hurray for Depth of Field!

I've been in a weird mood today... I slept late and I hate sleeping late but I'm still sort of on west coast time... I spent some time at Barnes and Noble with my dad looking at photography book... I became fascinated with the photoshop trick books and even started doing some crazy photoshop editing that will be posted at a later date.
These shoes live at my grandma's house in her little shoe collection. I say "revisited" because I took pictures of this shoe last year when I visted. This year, however, with the magnificent discovery of the manual F-stop on my super-cool digital camera, I was able to get right up close to it and had amazing focus. To think of all the years I could have been using that feature...
I'm not sure how I feel about Fotopages going premium. I mean, it's a nice option to have for people who want more features but for those who want to keep free accounts, I think some features will be taken away. I'm afraid that some fotopagers will leave the fotopage community as a result and that just makes me sad. While it's nice to archive photos, the real reason I post here is because I've made so many great fotofriends here and it's almost like I now have a second family. If people leave and go to other photo-hosting websites, it will be like changing schools and trying to keep up with old friends... I know the bronze isn't a lot of money but over time I guess it can sort of build up... I guess I'll eventually move up to bronze because I'm using about 67 MB at the moment but if great people start leaving I'm not sue it will be worth it

Back from Las Vegas!
Las Vegas was wondeful! The weather was so nice and I just love it out there. My grandma lives in the perfect location and is near to absolutely EVERYTHING. My grandma had surgery to get her cataracts removed and before the surgery her vision was 20/400 and after the surgery it was 20/40! Who knew they could make your eyes so bad?? So I had fun watching her play her draw poker on her TV and doing crossword puzzles and successfull trying every single caeser salad in Las Vegas. We went to Olive Garden, Applebee's, Chili's, Samy's, and even Burger King and ALL I ate were caeser salads. Applebee's came in first by far with the tastiest chicken and wonderful dressing but Olive Garden was a close second with super-crisp lettuce and nicely-flavored, warm meat.
I watched a special on CBS Sunday Morning about Diane Arbus. I already knew about her and knew some of her work but I learned a lot more by watching the special. She did some really groundbreaking things with her photography and took pictures of people "that most people would look away from." Her work is extremely interesting but also kind of scary and unsettling at the same time...
I did super-duper camera research on the airplane and while in Las Vegas and read two photo magazines forward and backward and even took notes on the best new cameras of 2005. I'm kind of interested in the digital SLRs and I thought I needed a new. But then I had a revelation...
I found out that my digital camera has a manual F-stop!! Yes, I have had my camera for 4 or 5 years and I just found this out. I can take pictures up really close now and the focus is SO much better! You shall see examples of my findings in future posts from my trip to LV. Until then, enjoy the pacific sunsets!

Chocolate Mice! (enlarge me please!)
I'm going to Las Vegas until Saturday the 19th to visit my grandma! I shall take many a photo but may not be able to update until I return as my grandma doesn't have high-speed internet access and I'm not sure if I'll be able to upload any photos. I hope you all have a fabulous week and I shall see you all soon!
These yummy morsels were from my friend's Napoleon Dynamite viewing party a few weeks back. They are not real mice, of course, but they are trufflish chocolatye things with twizler tails! I did not taste them, however, (I haven't eating sugar since January 2004!) but I heard they were quite delicious

JETS 2005
We were bored...

SHADOOF!
Why do I photograph such things?
So I participated in the JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society) competition recently and it was an interesting experience. It was my 4th time going to the competition and our school has never won anything in it (not a surprise) but it's always fun to participate. It's a multiple choice test and we never know the answers so we always make pretty designs with the fill-in bubbles. Actually, my partner and I think we got about 5 questions in our 20-question section correct! But if we didn't place in the top ten or so, we don't find out our rank.
Overall, the trip went well... disregarding the fact that the coach bus ATE my Clue video (I think it may still be viewable) and that our bus driver pulled over into a shoulder in the MIDDLE of the highway to get out and smoke...
One of the problem statements was about Irrigation and contained the word "shadoof". I had never heard of this word before and it simply made our entire team laugh uncontrollably for the remainder of the competition.
Shadoof/Shaduf (shä-doof')
n. A device consisting of a long suspended pole weighted at one end and having a bucket at the other end, used in the Near East and especially Egypt for raising water, as for the irrigation of land.
